Tikrit University’s College of Agriculture Discusses a PhD Dissertation on Improving Hatchability Efficiency and Broiler Performance

A doctoral dissertation submitted by the researcher Nawfal Nazim Ahmed Hamoud was discussed in the Department of Animal Production, College of Agriculture, Tikrit University, entitled:

(The Effect of In Ovo Injection of Hatching Eggs with Lactobacillus plantarum and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) on Certain Hatchability Traits and the Productive and Physiological Performance of Broiler Chickens).

The dissertation aimed to investigate the impact of employing modern biotechnological techniques and nano-additives on improving hatchability efficiency, productive performance, and physiological functions of broiler chickens, given their scientific and practical importance in advancing the poultry sector and enhancing animal production.

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Maad Abdul Karim Mahmoud, with membership of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Tays Tah, Prof. Dr. Waleed Khalid Abdul Latif, Prof. Dr. Tariq Khalaf Hassan, and Prof. Dr. Nihad Abdul Latif Ali, in addition to Prof. Dr. Arkan Bara’a Mohammed and Prof. Dr. Aqeel Abdul Shalij as members and supervisors of the dissertation.

The committee discussed the researcher’s scientific findings, provided observations and evaluations of the scientific and methodological aspects, and commended the researcher’s efforts and the significance of the study. The discussion concluded with a set of recommendations that contribute to supporting scientific research and advancing animal production.

A doctoral dissertation submitted by the student Firdous Mahdi Saleh Mahdi was discussed in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, College of Agriculture, Tikrit University, entitled:

“Response of Young Trees of Two Fig Cultivars (Ficus carica L.) to a Modified Environment and Spraying with Benzyladenine and Nano Calcium.”

The dissertation presented an advanced scientific study aiming to clarify the effect of certain environmental treatments and foliar application of growth regulators and nano-elements on improving the response and growth of young fig trees, given the economic and agricultural importance of this crop.

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Adeeb Jasim Abbas from Tikrit University / College of Agriculture, with membership of:

  • Prof. Dr. Rasmi Mohammed Hamad from the University of Anbar / College of Agriculture,
  • Prof. Dr. Ali Saeed Atiyah from the University of Kufa / College of Agriculture,
  • Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Ahmed from Tikrit University / College of Agriculture,
  • Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Fadhil Latif from Tikrit University / College of Agriculture,
    and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Fadhil Saleh from Tikrit University / College of Agriculture.

At the conclusion of the discussion, after reviewing the scientific aspects and discussing the results and recommendations, the committee presented its valuable scientific remarks, commending the student’s efforts and the academic level of the dissertation.

A doctoral dissertation submitted by the student Munaf Akram Qasim Hamdan was discussed in the Department of Food Sciences, College of Agriculture, Tikrit University, entitled:

“Study of the Chemical Properties of Curcumin Extracted from Turmeric and Its Use as a Natural Preservative in Some Food Products.”

The discussion took place in the building of the College of Agriculture Dean’s Office, in the presence of a specialized scientific committee comprising professors from Tikrit, Anbar, and Kufa Universities. The dissertation examined the potential use of curcumin as a natural alternative to synthetic preservatives, due to its important chemical and functional properties in the field of food industries.

The examination committee commended the student’s scientific effort and the significance of the study’s findings, noting their practical applications in enhancing food safety and promoting the use of natural substances for food preservation.

At the conclusion of the session, the committee decided to accept the dissertation, wishing the student continued success in his academic and research career.

A doctoral dissertation submitted by the student Amina Nayef Shaker was discussed in the Department of Plant Protection, College of Agriculture, Tikrit University, entitled:

“Isolation and Identification of Streptomyces Species from Soil and Evaluation of Their Efficiency in Integrated Control of Parasitic Insects on the Edible Mushroom Pleurotus spp.”

The discussion was held on the morning of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in the hall of the late Dr. Ramadan Ahmed Al-Taif, in the presence of a specialized scientific committee that included a distinguished group of professors from Tikrit and Samarra Universities.

The dissertation examined the vital role of Streptomyces bacteria in biological control and their potential use as a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to reduce insect infestations affecting edible mushrooms, contributing to the development of sustainable agricultural production methods.

The examination committee commended the scientific level of the dissertation and the significance of its applied results and decided to accept it after fulfilling the scientific requirements, wishing the student continued success in her academic and research career.

A master’s thesis submitted by the student Riyad Ibrahim Khamis was discussed in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, College of Agriculture, Tikrit University, entitled:

“Effect of Gibberellin Mixture (GA7/GA4) and Nano-Iron on the Vegetative Growth Traits and Active Compounds of Clove Plants.”

The discussion was held in the presence of a specialized scientific committee. The thesis examined the effects of different treatments using the gibberellin mixture and nano-iron on improving vegetative growth traits and increasing the content of active compounds in clove plants, given the agricultural and ornamental importance of this plant.
